Meet the Team

Olivia Meredith

my name is Olivia Meredith one of the founders of Leah charity foundation. Back in 2016 I met a couple while I was working on maternity ward who had come to give birth at Kiwoko hospital. I was the one assisting that woman during her labour and I had to receive her baby when she gave birth with the assistance of a senior midwife. I had asked the husband of the woman to get me baby clothes that they want me to put the baby in but the husband was giving me excuses. Later I followed the husband to see if they had baby cloths in their bags but I just found a dirty sack of dirty dirty cloths under the small flower tress at the hospital. The man looked at me and he gave me the dirty bedsheets that they use at home. I froze and I felt like crying, This broke my heart to see a new-born baby to be put in such cloths or to be wrapped in dirty bedsheets.  The man also burst into tears and he said. nurse, I love my wife and now the mother to my beautiful baby but I couldn't afford to buy any clothes for the baby as I didn't have any money. This hurt me deep in my heart and I begged the midwife I was working with if I could run back to school in the hostel and pick some clean bedsheets. The midwife was good and she allowed me. I quickly rushed and got my two clean bedsheets, cut them into 4 and I picked some of my clothes and 5000ugandan shillings (1pound) money I had on me, I got some soap and sugar and I carried some pads for the mother She burst into tears and knelt down to thank me. I seriously started a to cry with her and I told her GOD is our provider and He knew this baby while still in your womb, therefore trust in GOD to provide. From that day my heart grew very strong and I stared helping more patients in similar situations

On march  2017 we started up Good Samaritan heart ministry which merged to be called Leah charity foundation with Habib Lutalo. Both of us were nursing students and other students soon joined us. We have now served the communities of Kiwoko, Nakaseke and Luwero for 8years and we are looking forward to helping more and more people in Uganda. We are now a registered charity and by Gods help we are still serving and we have bigger dreams of making this charity a home for the homeless, a real place of hope for the hopeless and a charity which shares love to others as God loves us.

Romans 12:13.

share with the Lords  people who  are in need .practice hospitality.

we are Blessed to bless.

Habib Lutalo

Greetings everyone Reading my story. Its of great pleasure to share with you in the spirit of the Lord. My name is habib lutalo one of the founders of Leah charity foundation. I love this foundation and I'm so happy to be part of it. Well I have a lot to share when it comes to charity but let me just give you a story of how we came up with the idea. Its way back in 2017,  we we're nursing students at kiwoko health training institute. I was sitted with 3 other gentlemen Najib, Julius and Bashir when Julius told us that; do you guys know that alot of young mothers are suffering at maternity centre due to lack of provisions and other basic needs during their stay at hospital plus some other patients on other wards fail to meet hospital costs plus those that can't pay hospital bills. So that was obvious to us and everyone of us shared their encounter. As we continued, I told them that we can really help these people with the little we have. I was always inspired by the community people at the times I could walk around when I had no school programme. I tell you this brothers and sisters in faith people are suffering silently and people die with burden. In Africa people are on streets and behave as mad people to survive because of poverty.

So later I continued to meet with the gentlemen until I told them we could start up a team. The very first day I talked about it was in my second year second semester classroom.

I came to the classroom and wrote about it on the chalk board we were going in for a pharmacology lecture. Students read about it and the tutor also appreciated it.

That is the day I became friends with my sister Olivia one of the founders. With Olivia and others we came up with different plans each day until  one day when we had our first meeting.

It was attended by 8 people and all of them became leaders on the executive committe. Olivia became the first secretary, Julius the chairman, Bashir the mobilizer, najib the spiritual papa, I came up as the speaker. There were many challenges from the staff nursing school, hospital staff, there was also a similar organisation that had the same name with us.

It was not easy but God was with us. We started our ministry with giving provisions to patients, assisting them with bills, helping fellow students until we started missions or outreaches. I like Olivia because her passion for this was equalling mine and sometimes she was hungry to help others. Yeah she was surprising me. I'm the flag bearer and I've always kept them on track. So we started with walking around the communities, spreading the gospel counseling plus health education and giving something small. Then we did community work. At that moment we had made a mobile office.like chairman had a stamp we had record books and we had tshirts for identification. I'm writing this story joyfully because I'm happy to share the milestone.

So the chaplain st luke Church welcomed us and he discussed a out us with the board of directors kiwoko hospital and they accepted us to operate with in. We were students using our pocket money expecting nothing but happy to make people smile. In the first meeting we chose the name Good samaritan ministry then our motto came us I am blessed to bless. From Romans 12:13sugested by bashir.

We started visiting nearby churches and villages. To summarise that we have done numerous outreaches to meet our goals and objectives and we are proud of it. People are happy and their feedback is good.

So we could do community work like cleaning markets and roads then also clean our institution. We've been so disciplined over the years that the fellowship of the chaplaincy offered us the chance to spearhead ward ministries plus adding us on the Chapel time table of worship and praise plus preaching.

We were worried of what would happen if we left the institution. Shall the ministry go on or it would cease. Time came after 2 years. Covid was going to end us. We held numerous meetings with Olivia every now and then. Calls became calls to try to bring back the ministry to life. Until God heard us and brought a self motivated leader Galiwango Jonathan together with us. Plus patron Amos it gained life and our services came back till date we are going forward. In this story I honour Amos the all-time patron he has done his work with us selflessly. And also pray for brother reverend Steven semaganda he guided us and he stood in for us always. As I will share these stories the more. I shall mention my people the more and recoganise  them.

So later. We had to register the organisation because we had a plan to make it an organisation and a nation wide organisation. By the grace of God  we got a judicial representative . He proceeded with the registration however our mighty name Good samaritan heart ministry was blocked by URSB. We tried other likely similar abbreviations but in vain. Until I suggested we name it LEAH CHARITY FOUNDATION.

to me it was to honour the services and sponsorship Olivia has always offered to the organisation. To Olivia and John the husband. It was because of the situation Olivia went through to deliver Leah their daughter. She was about to lose little Leah. We are happy about the name because even the bible LEAH was the mother of 7 children from whom tribes of Israel came. And Judah brings the lineage of Christ. Isn't that pretty?

Over the years. We glorify the Lord that as you read this, we are a registered organisation. Leah charity foundation. We do every form of charity. Along the way we introduced education. Yeah we educate children right from lower primary. We have offices. We are recognised by the government of Uganda and we contribute to annual revenue returns. Our services are in line with the millennium development goals plus sustainable development goals. Allow me close with my usual remarks. Its nobler to give than to receive.

Always make someone smile. It makes God smile. Let's touch hearts restore hope and uplift others. The world will be a better place for you and for me

Tracy Nakanwagi

Praise God brethren. Am Nakanwagi Tracy and this is my story when comes to Leah Charity Foundation. I joined the foundation which was Good Samaritan by then in 2018 when I was in my first year second semester at Kiwoko health training Institute. I had heard  about the ministry  before but I had no much information on what it's really doing but I never thought that one evening walk will inspire to join the ministry. It was a cold evening while coming from the dinning Hall going to our hostels, I meet with brother Habib talked to me about the ministry and what they do in it like  carrying out counseling sessions, preaching the word of God and helping the needy in kiwoko hospital and the community. This inspired me to join the ministry because I had seen many sick people plus their attendants lack what to eat even money for their hospital bills.

I joined as a member but later  in 2019 became the secretary up to 2020, we worked hand in hand with brother Zaale Hope

who was the chairperson by then and brother Mbaabali Moses who was the mobiliser to push the ministry forward.

At our regime, we managed to do outreaches to hospitals and the surrounding areas and we could collect money from ourselves and some willing stuffs to buy necessities for the needy, we also used to present in morning devotions for the ministry to be known by everyone and we also managed to visit school s and do counseling among students but this wasn't a smooth journey because we faced resistance from the school administration saying that we had to concentrate on what brought us at school not the ministry issues but Great thanks goes to Chaplain Ssemaganda Steven, the late and our patron Mr. Okalang Amos who used to negotiate with the administrators for us to do all those activities in the community.

Unsurprisingly, covid 19 hit us in 2020 and we failed to fulfill our goals as set by that year and we had little time to leave school.

I thank the Almighty for enabling us extend love to others and I feel blessed being part of Leah Charity Foundation
